First off Brenda's Diner is a tough neck of the city. When we got to the diner it was a small place, hard to see if it was even open. Following the book my wife and I usually eat by, Roadfood, this was one of the eatery's we had to try it was highly recommended. We opened the door and went in to this small diner. It had a few tables and the place was decorated by its owner Brenda. Pictures of past customers and family adorn the walls. Tommy Lee Jones who was in town filming a movie found her and had Brenda cook the entire time for him while he was there. For lunch we ordered the meatloaf and chicken. I do not know how Brenda does it but the food here, all original, fresh and cooked by Brenda, was out of this world. My wife and I shared our food and wished we had ordered what the other had. It all was fresh, seasoned perfectly! The sides, greens, salad, potatoes all home made (we asked). Afterwards Brenda came out and talked with us about how she grew up and learned to cook with her mother and has no set recipes just keeps adding this and that until the food is cooked to where she thinks it should be. A great find and so glad we stopped in.

I don't know how I've just found this place. We moved to New Iberia over a year ago. I read about this place recently on Roadfood. After finding it I honestly thought "Probably just another loaded down plate lunch yet again." I mean you can get full & you can also find good food but it's harder than you'd think to do both here locally. When I tell you this is some of the best fried chicken I've ever had! It was seasoned perfectly & crisp yet still juicy. I can't figure out what she's using for the skin. It almost looks like some panko in there. It's friggin good I'll tell you that. Now cabbage & I broke up years ago but this smothered cabbage was so serious that I had to have a one night stand. You.must.order.it . The potato salad was good, nothing spectacular. Even the corn muffin was yummy. Most times they're an afterthought. Not here. Light & cake like. My niece that evil girl was so in love with her ribs that she would not part with even one. She reports that they were "delightful." The staff were super polite even good naturedly teasing us about our request for "just a little" rice. These LA folk can eat some rice. I like rice I just don't need a pound of it with every meal. They give a ton with every order here so speak up early when you order or be prepared. I will be going back- often.

Came across Brenda's care of a mention online and I am so glad we stopped by. One of those restaurants that is a must but can be easily passed by based on the exterior. We opened the door and were greeted immediately by Brenda and she was running that entire place and including kitchen by herself. Keep in mind, it was a late after noon Monday. We mentioned that we were from out of town and she was quick to put the entire spread of the day's favorites for us. FYI, it's a different menu every day. We had the beef stew and beef meatballs with red beans, potato salad, and sweet peas. All were great but loved the meatballs, red beans, and peas. Brenda later went back and made us her fried chicken after asking about and despite not making in the menu on Monday. And her peach cobbler is a must! Everything is made from scratch daily and she has been mentioned in Gourmet And soon to be in Saveur. Everything is made with love and it comes out in the food and experience. I could write all night, but just check it out for yourself. Uploaded some photos of my experience.

Absolutely amazing food. The customer service is top notch. Every employee goes out of their way to make sure any need you have is taken care of. I will return anytime I am passing through. I highly recommend stopping in for breakfast or lunch. You will not be disappointed.

Man, I don't even know where to start with this neat little place. I happened to read about it in "Quick Eats" and was on my way to Baton Rouge, so I made a right turn when I got to Lafayette, LA and drove down to Brenda's for lunch. I got there kind of late and they were sold out of most of the lunch items. We had some shrimp stew (Awesome) and chicken stew with green beans, rolls, salad, iced tea, etc. The food was spectacular and the place is totally unpretentious! Miss Brenda's daughter was cooking and when she found out I heard about her fried chicken (not on the day's menu) she went out of her way to make us a batch of wings while we were having lunch. Now THAT is customer service! The staff is super nice and went out of their way to make us comfortable even though they were closing the kitchen. If I wasn't required to have a job, I would move next door so I could eat there every day.
